Blog #4: personal statment

We all have somebody we can look up to. Someone that we can that has influenced us in a good or bad way. They can be a famous artist, a athlete, or family. They might of done this by either doing something you one day aspire to do and accomplish. Even something they did that you say to yourself you never want to do.
The one person i can say as impacted me the most in a positive manner would have to my dad. He is the most influential for many reason.

blog #3 personal statment

One group that I have a been a part of now since my freshman year in high school is the dual language group. Although I have been in the Dual language program at the school I wasn't really too involved with the club it self until this past year . Being a part of this group keeps me in contact with other students like myself that are bilingual and take classes in a bilingual setting. During those classes one day it is taught in English and the next it is in Spanish.
While I have been in this group my involvement has progressively gotten higher and higher. for example at first I was basically only taking the classes and that would be it for me. Now this past year I would constantly in their office helping them out with something or another. I would constantly be looking for after school activities that they would be hosting in order to either volunteer or just attend in order to obtain more information of the group.
Also as being a part of this group I have gotten the opportunities to attend different seminars banquets and summits that i may not have if i were not in it. Two that I really enjoyed were the Latino summit witch was held at UNL, the other was an informational banquet for the Grassroots program I which i hope to be a part of this coming year. Also at these events i was able to do some networking which will be really helpful when it comes time to look for colleges and scholarships.

Blog #2:First week as college student

Well having it be the first week of college it was a quit a change from high school. The first day or two didn't really know what to expect. Was the course really going to be as hard as I was told? Was I going to be able to stay caught up with all the work? Was I going to get along with my group members, were they going to like me? These were all reoccurring questions that I would keep asking myself.
The course I am enrolled is the small group communication and leadership. This class has its similarities and differences with that of a high school class I normally attend. Well the main and probably one of if not the only similarity is the class size in means of students in the classroom. Other then that most things are different such as the speed in witch the class goes. Here we read one chapter a night then take a quiz over it first thing the following morning. When in the high school setting I was more used to reading the night before then the next day look it over with the class.
The hardest part to me so far probably has to be the transition from high school setting to college setting. By this I mean in high school there would always be someone there to nag you to do something to turn in homework to get to class. That's not the case here. Here we have to be more dependent upon ourselves.

Blog #1: Residential life with Summer Scholars

On the first day coming into the residence hall I honestly did not know what to expect. I was curious on whether I would get along with my suit mate or not, but at the same time I was kind of scared. Turns out that I was pared up with some pretty cool kids. The first day or two of course being the shy type that I am I was kinda awkward but as the day went on more and more people started talking to me witch made it a lot easier for me to fraternize with the others. The more i went into the program everybody became very friendly and talkative and very easy to get along with everybody.
During this week we were also faced with the challenge of joggling our outside commitments, our course work, and also our residence life activities. At first this wasn't such a big conflict but as we got more work from our class the questions "will i get it done? and if so will i get it done on time?" would come up more. This at a point got difficult because you wanted to sit and hang out with your newly made friends and just relax and enjoy the last couple of days that you would be living together, but at the time you really couldn't because we either had to study , do homework, or had an activity planned with our RTA's.
The interaction with our RTA's was also a good experience. I liked it because they were easy to get along with. They were always there to answer our questions to the best of their ability and knowledge. They were able to mentor us to talk to us about the actual college life. Their past classes, and what techniques they used with test taking and getting their work done, also with like how they were able to manage school work with work, family, and friends.
